Cave in Antalya Province, Turkey

The excavations carried out in the cave by Prof. Kokten at intervals between 1946 and 1973 brought to light artefacts from the Palaeolithic, Neolithic, Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Ages, giving evidence of continuous habitation. The wall inscriptions and votive niches from the Classical Age indicate that the cave was used as a temple and for making vows.

The signs of habitation and the remains from the Palaeolithic Age, in particular, point to the fact that this is one of Anatolia's, even the World's, most important centres. The people who lived in that age have provided us with important knowledge of the flora, fauna and climate of the Pleistocene Period. Artefacts made from rhinoceroses, hippopotamuses and elephants as well as fossilised remains of Homo Sapiens from the Middle Paleaolithic, Neanderthal and Late Palaeolithic ages have been found.

From the site information board.

The site is on the UNESCO World Heritage tentative list.

The position is for the small on-site museum, the cave is about 300 metres along a path up the cliff.
