The site provides evidences of habitation from Mesolithic/Neolithic periods (worked flints were found during excavation of 1945) to Middle Ages.
Right at the center of the fort perimeter a small Bronze Age cist with missing cupstone is uncovered.
Near the entrance, at the eastern side of hillfort a heathen Viking ship grave was found under a low stone cairn. The remains of two adults: a man and a woman were found buried in a boat some 11 m long. The rich grave-goods indicated that the man was a chieftain, the female was probably sacrificed to follow her master to the afterworld.
Now the outline of the ship is marked by stones.
More information is available at the Isle of Man Guide site.
Another monument - the ruins of Keeill Vael, a small Celtic chapel (keeill) is located at the western end of the fort enclosure. Chapel was dedicated to St. Michael and dated from 10th - 11th century.
Information boards are placed next to each site monument by the Manx Museum and National Trust.
