Graig Las Cairn 2
Graig Las Cairn 2 submitted by TAlanJones : Northerly view across the cairns stony dome. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Situated within a high marshland to the west of Tyrrau Mawr this cairn shares the immediate area with another cairn about 20m to the NE. A prehistoric settlement lies further to the SW. The cairn is located at the eastern end of a long terrace.

The Gwynedd Archaeological Trust (GAT) considers the cairn to be prehistoric but are uncertain of its original purpose. Although heavily overgrown I paced the cairn as being about 5m in diameter. I noted some similarity to its neighbouring cairn in that it's 2/3 overgrown but with large stones exposed mainly on the eastern side, where there is also a 1.5m diameter depression lower than the surrounding ground. This visibly stony side is raised to about 0.5m with medium to large stones covering a slightly deeper depression that could be a cist?

An interesting cairn occupying a landscape with evidence of prehistoric activity that's rarely visited.
